Dr. Chien-Lun Lan stands as a seasoned Research Scientist at the Virginia Transportation Research Council. Holding a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Maryland College Park, Dr. Lan has consistently made contributions to the fields of traffic operations and safety.
His research interests span both traditional and emerging topics in transportation – from estimating freeway congestion costs and identifying high-crash road segments to leveraging data analytics to monitor roadway performance and analyzing the potential ramifications of CAV technology on operations. He has published numerous articles in top journals including ASCE Journal of Transportation Engineering, Transportation Research Part C, IEEE Transactions on ITS, Transportation Research Records, and others.
Beyond his research, Chien-Lun is actively engaged in professional activities. He is an Associate Member of ASCE. He also serves as an Editor for Transportation Research Record, a panel member for NCHRP projects, and the Committee Communication Coordinator for the TRB Standing Committee on Human Factors of Vehicles.
