Dr. Rouzbeh Ghabchi is an associate professor in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at South Dakota State University (SDSU). He received his PhD degree from the University of Oklahoma. His research interests include pavement engineering, innovative transportation infrastructuresâ materials, environmentally-friendly pavement technologies, pavement performance and asphalt materials. More specifically, his research areas include characterization and performance enhancement of asphalt mixes containing Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) and Recycled Asphalt Shingles (RAS), Ground Tire Rubber (GTR), Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA), tack coat, bio-asphalt, modified asphalt binder and asphalt binder-aggregate bonding and stripping mechanisms.
Prior to joining SDSU in 2016, he was a postâdoctoral research fellow at the University of Oklahoma, working as principal investigator (PI) and Co-PI on several research projects funded by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, Southern Plains Transportation Center and Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality. The objectives of theses research projects were to enhance the performance of the asphalt pavements, evaluate different WMA technologies, increase use of RAS, RAP and GTR in asphalt mixes, evaluate tack coat performance and propose a special provision for screening fatigue life of asphalt mixes containing RAS and RAP among other areas.
