Assistant professor
Appalachian State University
Boone, NC, United States
I am an assistant professor at Appalachian State University, Department of Sustainable Technology and the Built Environment. Before that, I worked as a graduate research assistant at Louisiana State University and Louisiana Transportation Research Center. I obtained my Ph.D. from the Department of Construction Management at LSU working on light-activated self-healing asphalt materials. I also hold a graduate certificate in Materials Science and Engineering. My research expertise and interest are in the broad theme of sustainable infrastructure and sustainable construction materials. I have published my research on self-healing asphalt materials, recycling of asphalt materials, and sustainable asphalt pavements in multiple peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering and the Journal of Construction and Building Materials. I am currently working on using bio-oil and biochar obtained from the pyrolysis of the wood and forestry waste in asphalt and concrete pavement, respectively. Wood-based bio-oil is being used for the polyurethane modification of asphalt binder.
