Musharraf Zaman, Ph.D., PE

Musharraf Zaman holds the David Ross Boyd and Aaron Alexander Professorship in Civil Engineering and Alumni Chair Professorship in Petroleum and Geological Engineering at the University of Oklahoma (OU), Norman. He has been serving as director of Southern Plains Transportation Center since 2013. His leadership has been instrumental to strengthening partnerships with state DOTs and the private sector and maintaining impactful workforce development, outreach, and tech transfer programs regionally, including Transportation Regional Internship program that has supported more than 275 students. Prior to that, he served as associate dean for research and graduate programs, OU Gallogly College of Engineering for eight years. In that role, he was instrumental to initiating several successful multidisciplinary research and educational initiatives including Seed Funding for Interdisciplinary Research and Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program. He is a prolific teacher and a highly accomplished researcher. During his tenure at OU, he has received several prestigious national-level teaching awards from the American Society of Engineering Education and more than $30 million in external funding from various state and federal agencies and the industry. He has published more than 475 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers and 17 books and book chapters and supervised more than 90 theses and dissertations. Several of his papers have won prestigious awards from international societies and organizations.
