Kharagpur, West Bengal, India
I am a PhD scholar in the Department of Architecture and Regional Planning, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. I have also done my post-graduation from this institute in the year 2019. During the course at IIT Kharagpur, I got exposed to advanced subjects in urban planning from the best pool of professors in India. During one of our field exercises in Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Kolkata, I led the physical infrastructure group and investigated the status of water infrastructure in the study area. Through dialogues with households and local authorities, we devised multi-sectoral strategies to mitigate the problems faced by the city residents. Among the many ways this exercise developed my personality, I realized how teamwork and participation are key to evolving sustainable solutions. For my PG dissertation, I decided to work on integrating Public transit and paratransit along a network corridor in Kolkata. Intending to make urban transport more efficient from both a demand and supply perspective, I came up with various scenarios for integrating both modes of transport and evaluated their commercial feasibility. Upon completing my PG, I continued researching urban transportation. At the intersection of mobility and sustainable development, vehicle ownership is one of the key aspects. This motivated me to take this up as my PhD topic. Right now, I am working towards developing a dynamic vehicle ownership model for India.
