Dr. Achilleas Kourtellis is the Assistant Program Director of ITS, Traffic Operations and Safety program at the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) at the University of South Florida (USF). Dr. Kourtellis has worked with the ITS program at CUTR since 2006. He has served as PI and Co-PI for several projects including utilizing artificial intelligence with vision-based systems for monitoring trespassing, mitigations for trespasser and suicide fatalities and injuries, Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority CV pilot project, crash avoidance technologies for large trucks, transit vehicles, pedestrian and bicycle safety and several transit related projects. He has performed numerous driving-controlled tests to evaluate technologies in vehicles, driver acceptance of technology tests, pedestrian, and bicycle safety research as well as research on automatic and connected vehicles. He also serves as an instructor for the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at USF.
