Dr. Juliana Byzyka is an Assistant Research Engineer at the Transportation Research Center and Instructor of Civil Engineering at UNLV. She has 10+ years of experience in teaching, research, and the civil engineering industry. Since 2015 she has been working toward the development of an automated asphalt repair method. This contribution to the asphalt industry market is of significant economic value and laid the groundwork for the design of more resilient and safer roadways. From 2019 to date, she has conducted collaborative research with international institutions (e.g., Aston University, UK, and Mutah University, Jordan) to advance pavement materials and sustainability in construction. Since 2023, she has expanded her research portfolio to surface transportation and in collaboration with the Transportation Research Center (TRC) at UNLV she conducts research on transportation operations, transportation safety, shared mobility, equitable mobility, emerging technologies in transportation, and sustainable transportation. She has published and presented her work in a number of international journals and conferences respectively. She has received numerous awards and honors such as the Vice Chancellor’s Prize for Doctoral Research Excellence in recognition of her Ph.D. contribution in 2019 and the Best Paper Award in 2016 at the 8th Conference Maintenance, and Rehabilitation of Pavements for her direct demonstration of road repair challenges in the engineering industry.
