Dr. Laurence R. Rilett is the Ginn Distinguished Professor of Civil Engineering at Auburn University and Director of the Auburn University Transportation Research Institute. Rilett’s research is in the field of transportation system analysis area; his specific research focus includes multi-modal transportation system modeling with a focus on safety, reliability, resiliency, and equity. Rilett has been a principal investigator or co-principal investigator on more than 45 research projects and center grants with total funding in excess of $50 million. He is currently the Managing Editor of the ASCE Journal of Transportation-Part A. Rilett was elected President of the Council of University Transportation Centers for 2021-2022. Rilett has authored or co-authored over 100 refereed journal papers and over 100 conference papers based on his research. The American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) awarded Rilett the Arthur M. Wellington Prize in 2019 and the Frank M. Masters Transportation Engineering Award in 2021 for “contributions to innovative research on transportation systems and collaborative leadership to develop a diverse workforce in transportation engineering.”
