Tom Maxner is pursuing a Ph.D. in Transportation Engineering at the University of Washington, and is a research assistant at UW’s Urban Freight Lab. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Syracuse University and a Master of Public Policy and Master of Science in Transportation Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. Tom’s research interests are primarily focused on sustainability in the freight and logistics industry, and the role that public stakeholders play in achieving freight decarbonization. He researched electrification of drayage and yard truck at the Port of Oakland while attending UC Berkeley. He is currently researching the ways in which major U.S. cities are planning for sustainable urban freight and how curb space use assignment can impact the productivity of th curb from both a freight and passenger perspective.
