Dr. Bin Ran is the Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. He is a leading expert in Collaborative Automated Driving System, Connected Automated Vehicle Highway System, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Internet of Mobility, Dynamic Transportation Network Models. Dr. Ran pioneered the development of the integrated system of connected vehicle and highway automation during 2015-2017. Dr. Ran has led the first integrated system design and architecture development of 1st and 2nd generations of collaborative automated driving systems in the world from 2016 to 2020. He had also led the development and deployment of various traffic information systems and technologies in the US and China from 1996 to 2011. He has trained younger generations of professors and experts in traffic engineering and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in the US, China, Europe, Canada, Japan, Korea, and other countries. Dr. Ran is the author of two leading textbooks on transportation planning and six books on intelligent highways; he has published more than 400 papers in refereed journals and more than 300 referenced papers in conference proceedings. He has more than 100 patents or patents pending in the US, China, Japan, Europe and other countries.
