Dr. Robert Heckendorn is an associate professor in Computer Science and has been at the University of Idaho since 1999. Prior to his academic career he worked as a software engineer for Hewlett-Packard for 15 years in divisions that made calculator, UNIX systems, software development environments, and the LISP compiler. He also has experience as a private consultant. He received a BA in Mathematics from the University of Oklahoma, a MS in Computer Science from the University of Arizona, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Colorado State University. His teaching interests include Introductory to Programming, Programming Languages, Algorithms, Compilers, Bioinformatics, Evolutionary Computation, and Machine Learning. His research areas are in evolutionary theory with an emphasis on epistasis, evolutionary computation, optimization, and dynamical systems.
