Marsha Anderson Bomar is currently the Commissioner Emeritus of the Atlanta Department of Transportation. Previously, she served as Assistant General Manager of MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Regional Transit Authority) for Capital Program Delivery and Executive Director of the Gateway85 Community Improvement District. Prior to the CID, she was the Founder and President of Street Smarts, Inc., a planning, engineering and design firm, and Data Smarts, a data collection and management firm, established in 1990. Both of those she sold in 2010 to Stantec, an international consultancy, where she served as a Sustainability Practice Leader. Ms. Anderson Bomar is an International Past President of the Institute of Transportation Professionals and recipient of the Burton Marsh Lifetime Service Award as well as the Theodore Matson Memorial Award.
Marsha is also featured as Extraordinary Woman Engineer in ASCE publication entitled, Changing Our World, True Stories of Women Engineers, by Sybil E. Hatch, Copyright 2006, (page 88) and has served as President of the ASCE Transportation and Development Institute. She recently completed a three year term as Society Director on the Board of Direction as well as a Technical Director of the Technical Region Board of Governors. She was awarded the ASCE William Wisely Civil Engineering Award and currently serves as the Treasurer for ASCE.
In 2010, Marsha received the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Community Service Award for outstanding contributions to her community and her profession. For four years, Ms. Anderson Bomar has been recognized by ACEC as one of the Top 100 Influential Women in Georgia.
Marsha has been an active member of the Transportation Research Board since 1975 having served on numerous committees. Most recently she completed 16 years on the Women and Gender in Transporation committee, serving as Chair for 6 year; this included serving on the Steering committee for 3 International conferences.
She recently completed her fourth term as Council Member for the City of Duluth, Georgia and has been Mayor Pro Tempore three times.
Marsha earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Masters in Transportation Planning and Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. She also holds a Masters of Civil Engineering from Princeton University. Marsha is the author of hundreds of publications, articles and studies and an International speaker on technical subjects as well as Leadership and Ethics. She is also the Mom of three, stepmom to three, has 5 in-law children, 3 stepgrands and two beautiful grands, Anderson and Tristan.
