The poor condition of sidewalks makes it difficult and aesthetically unpleasant for the users to use the facility. This study aimed to identify the actual condition of sidewalks by using and calibrating a relatively new technique that involves using the Sidewalk Condition Index (SCI). Around fifty-eight segments were selected from two significant routes of Dhaka city. This study includes a literature review, walking and video condition survey, assessment of the type of distress, severity, and density of various problems found from the survey, development of a methodology of SCI, and calibration and validation of the new SCI methodology. The eight most hazardous segments were chosen from those fifty-eight segments by analyzing the survey data. The findings of the research work may be used as practical sidewalk management tools and protocols by local government authorities of Dhaka and other cities around the world for assessing and prioritizing the sidewalk networks and keeping rational budget provisions for them.
