Abstract: True autonomous vehicle operation has proven more difficult than expected after more than $150 billion has been invested. Reliable autonomous vehicle operation has shown itself to be asymptotic in large part because the focus has been entirely on the vehicle. By utilizing dedicated guideways for autonomous vehicles, immediate deployment is possible with people moving capacity equivalent to bus rapid transit and light rail at a significantly lower cost per mile and cost per passenger.

This presentation will focus on the latest developments in automated transit networks (ATN) for private rapid transit (PRT) and group rapid transit (GRT) vehicles in North America including active and upcoming projects, applicable use cases, typical guideway sections and station designs, and cost per mile and passenger estimates.
