Abstract:

As the APM systems deployed across the United States approach mid life, or in some cases, end of useful life for some subsystems, the question of renewal of these critical assets becomes paramount in operators’ minds.  Renewal of a system involves multiple subsystems, interfaces, management of obsolescence, technology refresh and state of good repair, and careful planning is required to minimize impacts on service for passengers.  This talk will walk through a theoretical case for the renewal of an APM system, and highlight the choices and planning required to minimize service impacts, and maximise the useful life of existing assets.

Attendees can expect to learn the following from this session:
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to identify the key susbsystems involved in the upgrade of APM system and their interfaces when contemplating an upgrade to an APM system.
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to understand the evaluations and engineering assessments which need to take place prior to the upgrade of an APM system.
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to understand the overall methodology and approach for achieving the upgrade of an APM system.
  • Upon completion, participants will have an understanding of the return of experience of previous APM system upgrades.
